Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce Own $100 Million in Property—Here’s How a Prenup Would Protect Their Private Real Estate

by Kelsi Karruli

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce left their fans in a frenzy when they announced their engagement last month—an excitement that was only heightened when reports surfaced that the power couple could well be headed to the altar as early as next summer.

Since revealing their plans to tie the knot in a heartfelt Instagram post that featured images of Kelce getting down on one knee in the backyard of his $6 million Kansas mansion, Swift and her NFL star partner are said to have been swept up in a flurry of planning for the big day, which insiders say will take place at the pop star's Rhode Island mansion.

As one of the most famous celebrity pairings on the planet, it makes sense that Swift and Kelce, both 35, would want to retreat to the privacy of their own homes for major romance milestones like their engagement and their wedding.

But those homes will also play another major role in the duo's nuptials: the prenup.

While Swift and Kelce have not yet shared any details about the less-than-glamorous legal side of their marriage, experts believe that a prenuptial agreement is all but assured in the meeting of two such high-profile (and wealthy) individuals.

Although they both boast an impressive fortune independent of each other, Swift is the big player in real estate, having amassed a $100 million portfolio that eclipses Kelce's own real estate collection, something that will come into play in any prenup planning.

Speaking to Realtor.com®, Monica Mazzei, a family law expert with Horowitz Agency, explained that there are several ways in which Swift and Kelce might approach a prenup, noting that their real estate holdings are one of just many areas that the agreement would cover.

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce left their fans swooning when they announced their engagement, and their wedding is reportedly closer than people may think.

"They are each coming into the marriage with significant real estate holdings—Taylor having a lot more—so I would assume that they will have a prenup that will provide that whatever they already own coming into the marriage is going to stay their separate property," Mazzei said.

As for how their prenup might take shape, Mazzei explained that it is unlikely like that the couple will request spousal support in the event of a divorce.

“So prenups can predetermine who is going to pay who, or there can be a waiver of support where they are both waiving the right to ask the other for support. Even though Taylor is worth a lot more than Travis, he does have a pretty significant estate," she said.

"I wouldn’t be surprised if they had a mutual waiver of support provision, even though she has a lot more, he has very significant assets so it wouldn’t be out of the question for this to be a situation where they are both so wealthy that if they divorce no one would owe the other any kind of support."

And while the pair won't likely give up their personal estates, they may end up losing out on a property if they purchase it jointly while married.

“If there is a piece of real estate that they are living in for the majority of time or that they use a lot, that's called the family residence," Mazzei noted.

"They have homes all over the place, but usually there is one place where the couple is spending the majority of their time and that's what we call the family residence.

"Usually there will be a provision in the agreement that says who will get the family residence and it may be the person that already owns it, it could be the other person or in their agreement it could say that the family residence is going to be jointly owned, whether it's one they already have or one they are going to purchase in the future.

"So that's another provision: What are they going to do about real estate they purchase during the marriage? They both already own real estate but if they purchase something during the marriage, are they going to take title to that jointly or is there no requirement and they will decide as each piece is acquired?"

The lawyer added that if they do purchase a marital home together, it could cause issues later if they separate.

As the couple's wedding date may be quickly approaching, Monica Mazzei, a family law expert with Horowitz Agency, revealed to Realtor.com how Swift and Kelce are likely to organize their real estate holdings in their prenup.

“They may have a provision of the family residence, which they use most often. Unless the prenup says how they will take the title, it will be determined at the time of purchase. So the title company is going to say how do you want to take the title—it could be in Taylor's name, his name or jointly. And then that lends itself to what's going to happen if they divorce, does she own it, does he own it? Or did they take the title jointly?" she said.

"If it's a joint property, there are only three ways it can be dealt with in the event of a divorce—it's sold and the proceeds are split, she buys him out of it and keeps it, or he buys her out of it and keeps it."

Mazzei said that many couples quickly begin looking for a new home in which to start their married life, particularly if they are eager to start a family, which sources have claimed Swift is very keen to do.

“There is a lot of feeling around the family residence because that's where they will be spending time. Usually there is one person in the relationship—it's usually the less wealthy person—that doesn't really like the idea of living in a home the other person owns," she said.

"It's the connotation of it like, 'Oh I live in your house, it's not our house.' It's pretty common for people to feel like the family residence should be joint, no one wants to feel like they are a guest in someone else’s house.

“It doesn't surprise me that they are eyeing a new home. Although they can live in a lot of places, if they want kids that mobility decreases so they won't be as transient. They have to pick a spot where they can be for the school year."

While the couple has not commented on rumors that they are tying the knot in Rhode Island in 2026, Rhode Island Gov. Dan McKee has made clear he hopes the speculation about their chosen locale is true.

“Rhode Island has some of the best wedding venues in the world, just saying," McKee commented on an X post about Swift and Kelce's engagement announcement.

The summertime holiday has become synonymous with Swift's iconic celebrity gatherings at her abode in Rhode Island, where she has hosted such famous faces as Gigi HadidBlake Lively, Selena Gomez and Cara Delevingne.

Beginning in 2013, the year that she purchased her Watch Hill dwelling for $17.75 million, Swift has gathered some of her nearest and dearest at the property to mark the patriotic holiday in true celebrity style.

Though she has taken a few years off from her hosting duties—namely when she dated British actor Joe Alwyn, from 2017 until 2023—the singer's parties have become one of Hollywood's most talked-about A-list gatherings.

The residence—which is located in the exclusive enclave of Watch Hill in Westerly and is known locally as "Holiday House"—currently sprawls across 11,000 square feet and features seven bedrooms and nine bathrooms.

The news of their wedding plans came just one day after Kelce admitted that introducing Swift as his fiancée still makes him "giddy."

He gushed over the moment he stepped out with Swift for the first time after announcing their engagement while speaking with his brother, Jason Kelce, on their podcast, "New Heights."

Jason pressed his brother for answers and asked how the week after their engagement announcement went.

Word of their possible wedding plans came just one day after Kelce admitted that introducing Swift as his fiancée still makes him "giddy."

"Exciting, it's been awesome," he responded, before gushing about the first time he introduced Swift following the proposal.

"I felt that at the game, actually," Travis said, referencing the Cincinnati game he attended with Swift last week. "It was my first time introducing Taylor as my fiancée to a few of my teammates. So yeah, it was pretty cool."

"Don't you get giddy saying it?" Jason questioned.

"Yeah, I do. I still get giddy, exciting times," Travis responded.

Just days after revealing their plans to tie the knot, the lovebirds headed to the stadium alongside Jason to support the Kansas City Chiefs tight end's alma mater, the University of Cincinnati.

Swift lit up the stadium with her shimmering rock, which was designed by Kindred Lubeck and is estimated to be worth $400,000 to $800,000.

According to TMZ, the couple are spending all of their free time together, but have not moved in together, and buying a new marital home is not a priority for them.

Swift and Kelce announced their engagement in a joint Instagram post on Aug. 26, but just one day later, the athlete's father confessed that the couple had been engaged for weeks.

While speaking with News 5, Ed revealed that his son got down on one knee "maybe two weeks, not quite two weeks, ago" at Kelce's Kansas City dwelling.

"He was going to put it off till this week. I think she was getting maybe a little antsy, but he was going to put her off till this week to, you know, make some grand thing, to make it a big, special event.

"And I told him repeatedly, you know, you could do it on the side of the road, do it any place that makes it a special event ... when you get down on one knee and ask her to marry you," he revealed.

The 74-year-old noted that Kelce surprised Swift by pretending they were going out to dinner.

It comes as no surprise that Kelce chose to ask Swift to marry him at his home, as it boasts significant privacy and lush greenery—two things the pop star is known for adoring.

The Kansas City Chiefs tight end snapped up the 17,000-square-foot mansion in the desirable suburb of Leawood in September 2022 for $6 million.

Located inside a gated community, the grand estate sits on nearly 3.5 acres at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac.

The six-bedroom, six-bathroom mansion sits behind a gated entrance with a dramatic circular driveway. The inside is an entertainer's dream and includes a chef's kitchen, formal dining room, media lounge, wine cellar, and full bar.

Outside, the expansive backyard is anchored by a "Beverly Hills-style" pool area with plenty of space for lounge chairs, umbrellas, and pool toys.

There's also an outdoor kitchen, tennis/pickleball court, waterfall, hot tub, and miniature golf course.
