South Florida Estate That Was Inspired by Owner’s Transformative Visit to French Chateau Is Listed for $11.8 Million
A beautifully designed Florida manse that was engineered to bring a slice of French elegance to the Sunshine State has hit the market for $11.75 million—marking the first time it has been listed since it was built 20 years ago.
The stylish custom estate in Pinecrest, FL, is the realized dream of its sole owner, Rafael Reyes, who was inspired by a French château he visited as a college student.
That stay sparked a lifelong passion for classical French architecture. Reyes spent years studying the style to ensure his Florida home served as a truly authentic homage to the architecture.
"While I was in college, my former roommate invited me to his wedding in France, and I had the opportunity to stay in a French château during the celebration," Reyes explains to Realtor.com®.
"That experience had a lasting impact on me. I was incredibly moved by the way the house felt—the scale, the symmetry, the light, and the sense of elegance—and it was really the moment I fell in love with French architecture. From that point on, I spent a great deal of time studying it, particularly the more classical château tradition rather than the more provincial or rustic expressions."

In 2001, Reyes had the opportunity to put that experience into practice when he purchased a plot of land in Pinecrest for $515,000. The parcel would become home to his dream French dwelling around five years later.
The result is a "timeless" 7,196-square-foot dwelling that features elegant living and dining spaces with coffered ceilings, oversized windows, custom millwork, and hardwood floors.
Reyes says what initially drew him to the French design was its approach to symmetry and proportion to maximize natural light.
"That became a guiding principle for this house," he says.
"Rather than trying to reproduce the intricate historical detailing, which originally would have taken years to build, I wanted to create a contemporary composition that carried the same architectural language and discipline: the proportions, the volumes, the balance, and the formal presence, reinterpreted through a modern lens as a classical French contemporary home."
Reyes also prioritized a delicate balance between expansive living spaces capable of hosting multiple guests and more intimate spaces where he and his loved ones could create their own special sanctuary.
"What stands out most is how the house balances privacy with connection," he says. "The separate wings allow for a sense of independence within the home, which has been especially meaningful in raising a family.
"At the same time, the design creates a range of experiences—from outdoor dining and covered terraces to more intimate spaces—so the house can feel formal or relaxed depending on the moment, whether with family or entertaining friends.”
Reyes chose the Pinecrest location as it offered larger parcels of land and excellent school districts.

"It also felt like a place better suited to raising a family—whether that means your children riding their bikes to school or simply walking your dog through the neighborhood," he says. "As the city has become more dense and fast-paced, Pinecrest has continued to offer a more suburban sense of comfort, privacy, and calm, while still being close to everything when you need it."
The home's unique layout offers plenty of space for entertaining with its outdoor dining area overlooking the pool. An air-conditioned attic offers flexibility as a bonus space, which could be turned into a home office, fitness center, or playroom.
"This estate stands out as an exceptionally unique property in today’s market," says Casey Fritz, who is co-listing the property with Jennifer Goldstein, both of Douglas Elliman. "Buyers are often overwhelmed by the abundance of super-modern new construction. However, as of recent, there has been a noticeable shift toward residences with character."
Fritz says not only are its design details impressive, but the location is also extremely desirable.
"This home has several standout features, including its remarkable build quality, high-end materials, European architectural style, and prime location," he says.
"The location is particularly rare, as Suburban Drive is a quiet street within an enclave of exceptional homes that rarely trade hands. This exclusivity has created a genuine neighborhood feel."
Due to the home's proximity to some of Miami's top schools, Fritz believes the next buyer will likely use it as a primary residence.
"It offers an ideal setting for raising a family, with a fantastic layout that can adapt as the family evolves," he says. "As Miami attracts global wealth, this home could appeal to families relocating from out of state or internationally, especially those who appreciate the European-style home."
