Savannah Guthrie Gives Fans Health Update After Vocal Cord Surgery as She’s Noticeably Absent From the ‘Today’ Show

"Today" show co-host Savannah Guthrie has given fans a health update after taking a leave of absence from the popular morning program in order to undergo surgery on her vocal chords.

The 54-year-old revealed during a recent episode of "Today" that she would be going under the knife at the start of 2026 and would subsequently be away from NBC's Manhattan studios for a "couple of weeks" while she recovers at home.

Now, Guthrie has assured fans that she is "all good" following the surgery—although she is not quite able to talk just yet.

The TV personality and mother of two—who celebrated her 54th birthday on Dec. 27—took to Instagram to reassure "Today" viewers that she is recovering well, sharing a photo of herself holding up a small whiteboard, which read: "All good! Thanks for prayers and love!"

She captioned the flick of her smiling while holding the sign up, "see you soon."

Guthrie announced the news of her surgery on Dec. 19, telling fans that she would be back as soon as possible, adding that the procedure is not a "big, big deal."

“Some of you have noticed that my voice has been very scratchy and started to crack a little bit. Well, I have found out what it is," she explained to viewers.

"I have vocal nodules, and I also have a polyp. It’s not a big, big deal, but I am going to have to have a surgery in the new year and be off for a couple of weeks, so this is my last day for a little while."

She continued by expressing her relief that a long-running issue has finally been diagnosed, even thought it means having an operation, revealing: "This has been going on for years, honestly, so to have a solution..."

Guthrie revealed that some viewers had already raised concerns about the tone of her voice, adding that they thought she had "the world's longest head cold."

However, there is one major drawback for the on-air host—who will not be able to speak for several weeks after the procedure, although she joked this may come as a welcome gift to her family.

“Totally silent. Christmas coming early for my family!" she said with a laugh.

Guthrie also had a helping hand in the form of her co-star Sheinelle Jones, who revealed that she has also undergone the same surgery in the past—noting that there are plenty of advantages to the recovery time.

“The silver lining is you have permission to be still. The house gets quiet, the kids are gonna want to help you out. A lot of the greats have done it, maybe you’ll come out singing like, I don’t know, Celine Dion," Jones said.

Guthrie joked, "Well, you know, it’s really funny, I used to sing. Then I couldn’t sing anymore and then I couldn’t speak anymore. So who knows, guys the tour is happening in 2026.”

Guthrie will be recovering from her surgery at her $11 million Brooklyn townhouse, where she has lived with her husband, Michael Feldman, and their children, Vale and Charley, since 2023.

According to records, Feldman and Guthrie shelled out $11.35 million for their 4,500-square-foot abode, which features six bedrooms and four bathrooms.

The family moved into the enormous dwelling after offloading their Tribeca apartment because they had a "vision and dream of living in a townhouse."

Guthrie previously shared a glimpse of her townhouse while showcasing her large Christmas tree.

Her tree featured unique ornaments, including one shaped like a Doritos bag, another shaped as a tin of caviar, and one that had the word "Swiftie."

There were also sentimental baubles such as photos of the Guthrie family.

The towering tree was topped with a shimmering star and drew attention to her expansive living area, which featured a bookshelf and a high ceiling.

Fans rushed to the comments section and praised the TV anchor for her adorable tree and sentimental ornaments, with one social media user branding the conifer a "memory tree," and another praising it as "so nice."

Guthrie previously lifted the lid on her upbringing in the Arizona town of Tucson, when she invited the morning show cameras to join her on a tour of her favorite places in the desert locale.

Guthrie, who graduated from the University of Arizona, introduced fans to her favorite restaurant and her sorority house, before visiting her mom, Nancy, who still lives in the same home that the reporter grew up in.

Ahead of the segment airing, Guthrie revealed the significance of her trip—and her desire to spotlight the many places in Tucson that helped her to become the person she is today.

She hoped that locals would see the on-air tour as a touching tribute to their community, she explained to Tucson.com.

"It’ll be a nice love letter to Tucson. That’s certainly the intent," she said.

First up on that love letter tour? Securing her favorite Mexican food at local eatery Old Pueblo, which she joked is her "No. 1 priority" whenever she visits home.

The segment, which was filmed Oct. 17 and took about eight hours to complete, saw Guthrie traveling to Tucson and filling her days with several activities, including visiting her mom, which she said was "really cute."
