Patrick Mahomes Hints at Travis Kelce Retirement—After Taylor Swift Revealed Dream of Settling Down and Having Kids With the NFL Star
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has hinted at the end of teammate Travis Kelce's NFL career as retirement rumors continue to surround the tight end—speculation that only heightened after his fiancée, Taylor Swift, revealed to the world her dream of settling down with her beau.
Following the Chiefs' shocking loss to the Houston Texans on Dec. 7, Mahomes, 30, address Kelce's future in the sport, admitting to reporters at a press conference that he was cherishing the time he gets to play with the 36-year-old tight end, because he knows that could come to an end at any point.
“Every season I’ve had with him these last few years, I try to cherish because you never know," Mahomes said.
However, the quarterback hastened to note that nothing is set in stone—adding that, whatever decision Kelce makes at the end of this season, he can finish the year knowing he has given his all to the team.
“He got himself in great shape this year, and he’s played great football," Mahomes continued. "He’ll have the option to do whatever he wants to do after this season, but I know one thing: He’ll give everything he has for the rest of this season to try to give us a chance to make a playoff run."

Kelce has previously spoken out to deny rumors of an impending retirement, telling reporters at the Chiefs' training camp on Aug. 6 not to ask him questions about his retirement until it happens.
"Man, ask me that when I retire," he responded when questioned about what his "fondest training camp memory" would be if this season were to be his last.
However, it's unclear whether his views on the future have changed in light of the Chiefs' rough run this year, with the team enduring a disappointing regular season that has seen them losing more than they have won—a devastating blow for a side that won back-to-back Super Bowls in 2023 and 2024.
Mahomes addressed this lackluster performance while speaking to reporters, conceding that his team's chances of making the playoffs are "getting lower and lower."
“We just have to execute at a higher level in those big moments. It’s something we haven’t done this year," Mahomes added.
His admission about Kelce's future comes after it was claimed that Swift, 35, and the tight end are planning to tie the knot on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at the Ocean House resort in Westerly, RI, having reportedly offered a very hefty sum to a couple who had already booked the venue for that date in a bid to secure it for themselves.
Insiders told Page Six that Swift and Kelce have wanted to tie the knot at the Rhode Island venue, which is just steps away from the singer's Rhode Island home, for quite some time.

According to the sources, while the couple had been eyeing up another Rhode Island location—a Gilded Age mansion known as The Breakers—they have recently changed their minds as their plans have evolved.
The couple reportedly made the decision to pivot locations after realizing that they wanted to invite more guests than they had initially planned for—pushing the total number of invitees to more than their previously chosen location could accommodate.
The songstress—who got engaged to the football player in August—previously offered fans a glimpse into her swoon-worthy romance with Kelce in her new album, "The Life of a Showgirl," which was released Oct. 3.
Swift revealed that she has already pictured her life with Kelce in her one of her tracks titled, "Wi$h Li$t," confessing that the NFL pro has left her envisioning what kind of mom she would be to a "whole block" of kids.
She sings, "I just want you/Have a couple of kids, got the whole block lookin' like you/Got me dreaming about a driveway with a basketball hoop."
The lyric was just the latest indication that Swift may be slowing down from a life on the road following the release of her 12th album—which debuted just a few months after her sold-out global Eras Tour came to an end.
The "Lover" hitmaker even admitted that she was "tired" from her busy schedule while speaking on BBC Radio 1 with Greg James and hinted that she has no plans to tour on such a huge scale anytime soon.

“Have you got the itch for another something soon?” James asked, to which Swift quickly replied, “No, no.”
She then confessed that she was "so tired" following her Eras Tour.
“Like when I think about doing it again because I would wanna do it really, really well again,” she said.
Her decision to dial things back may have to do with her desire to embrace a domestic life with Kelce, who she says made her wishes come true.
"I made wishes on all of the stars/Please God, bring a best friend who I think is hot," she added in the upbeat track.
Swift made several references to the football star in other tracks, even giving fans a glimpse into a more intimate part of their relationship.
"Honey, I'm home, we could play house/We can bed down, pick me up/Who's the baddest in the land/What's the plan?/You could be my forever night stand," she belted in her other hit, "Honey."
In "Fate of Ophelia," she sang, "You dug me out of my grave and saved my heart from the fate of Ophelia/Keep it one hundred on the land (Land), thе sea (The sea), the sky/Pledge allegiance to your hands, your team, your vibes/Don't care where the hell you've been (Been) 'cause now (Now), you're mine."
And, Swift even admitted that tying the knot didn't cross her mind before she met Kelce, confessing in her hit "Eldest Daughter" that she "didn't believe in marriage."
