Oceanfront ‘Geometric Hippie House’ With Special Erosion Control Design Lists in Oregon for $625K

by Kellie Speed

A stunning, free-form, artistic residence has just hit the market on a beachfront in Oregon for $625,000—quickly swimming its way to the top of the week's most popular homes list.

Built in 1970, the two-bedroom abode's one-of-a-kind design was the brainchild of its owner and has since earned both local and national renown, even featuring in National Geographic in 1979.

While the Gleneden Beach, OR, property sits mere feet from the ocean, it has been outfitted with new "rip rap revetment," a kind of special erosion control that uses large stones or other hard materials to prevent the disintegration of the surrounding area.

Inside, the home is just as special. A sunken living room has a floor-to-ceiling Artistic gas stove. There are also lots of built-ins and several cozy nooks and crannies to snuggle up in. A soaking tub surprises on the upper level, and there is also an exterior sauna.

Found throughout the beachfront shingled dwelling are a wood-clad interior with clean lines, slanted walls, uniquely shaped windows, stained glass, slate rock and wood floors, and soaring ceilings.

Yet for all that the unique oceanfront dwelling has to offer, it has struggled to find a buyer—bouncing on and off the market multiple times since 2023, when it was listed for $799,000.

Other properties grabbing attention this week are a wedding venue and winery in Washington, a "hobbit-inspired" hideaway in Montana, and a fully decommissioned Cold War-era missile base in North Dakota.
