King Charles ‘Offers Olive Branch’ to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle—by Allowing Them Use of His Personal Country Home
King Charles has reportedly attempted to ease the royal family's ongoing rift with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle by offering them the use of his personal country residence if they visit the U.K. at any point in the coming months.
According to multiple reports, Charles, 77, has extended an invitation to Harry, 41, and Meghan, 44, to stay at his beloved Highgrove House residence, a sprawling countryside estate that has served as the King's country home since 1980.
The move is being described as an "olive branch" meant to ease tensions between the couple and the senior royals.
Harry and Meghan, who have been living in California since 2020, have not traveled to the U.K. together since 2022, when they attended Queen Elizabeth II's funeral.
That is understood to be the only time that Charles has met his granddaughter, the Sussexes' younger child, Lilibet, who is now 4.
While Harry has made several solo trips back to his home nation in recent years, his wife and their two children, Archie, 6, and Lilibet, have remained in the U.S., with the Duke of Sussex blaming the removal of his taxpayer-funded security for their absence on his visits to England.
However, it is widely believed that the father of two is on the road to regaining that protection after a new risk assessment launched by RAVEC—the government body tasked with deciding who does and doesn't meet the requirements for publicly-funded security in the U.K.—determined that he now does meet those standards.

As a result, rumors are swirling that Harry and Meghan could travel to the U.K. as soon as this summer in order to attend an event marking the one-year countdown to the next Invictus Games.
While neither has confirmed whether the former "Suits" star will be present at the event, she has made something of a tradition out of being by her husband's side during the majority of his Invictus Games appearances, most recently joining Harry at the 2025 event in Canada.
The upcoming Invictus Games launch event is due to take place in July, a year before the multisport competition is held in Birmingham.
Highgrove House is located around 76 miles from Birmingham, but would serve as a useful midpoint between London and the Midlands, should Harry and Meghan wish to spend some time in the nation's capital before making their way to the Invictus Games kickoff.
Additionally, the historic residence offers an incredible level of privacy, which the couple would likely struggle to enjoy in London or Windsor, where Prince William and Princess Kate are currently based with their children.
The enormous abode is a world away from the $14.65 million Mediterranean-style Montectio mansion where Harry and Meghan are currently living with their children—having originally been built between 1796 and 1798.
Situated on a staggering 900 acres of organic land, the Georgian neo-classical abode is known as one of Charles' favorite places to visit, not least because of the stunning landscapes that surround it.

The King initially moved into the property in the late 1980s, along with his late first wife, Princess Diana, and their children, Prince William and Prince Harry.
Charles carried out an extensive renovation of the home in 1987 in order to make it more family-friendly and has continued to use it as a weekend retreat, along with his second wife, Queen Camilla.
Interestingly, however, the King is no longer the owner of the property, which passed into the hands of his son, William, who assumed the title of Duke of Cornwall in 2022, when his father ascended to the throne—and in doing so took control of all the properties owned by the Duchy of Cornwall, including Highgrove.
William now rents the estate to his father, having recently moved into his own extraordinary estate on the grounds of Windsor Great Park, along with his wife and their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
Meanwhile Harry and Meghan have not had access to their own personal U.K. base since early 2023, when they were "asked to vacate" Frogmore Cottage, a property on the grounds of Windsor Castle, where they had been living before relocating to the U.S.
The couple continued to use the property, which was leased to them by the Queen shortly after their wedding in 2018, even after moving to California, but had officially vacated the home by June 2023, according to reports.
For nearly six years, the couple's primary residence has been their sprawling nine-bedroom, 16-bathroom Montecito estate, which they bought in June 2020, several months after stepping down from their roles as senior working royals.

The mansion, which sits in the same tony neighborhood where the likes of Oprah Winfrey, Katy Perry, and Ellen DeGeneres all own homes, sits on an impressive 5.4 acres of land and offers a wealth of privacy for the couple and their kids.
In a 2022 interview with The Cut, Meghan revealed how the couple had come across the dwelling—admitting that they stumbled across it during an online house hunt.
"We were looking in this area and this house kept popping up online in searches," she revealed.
Interestingly, Meghan admitted that she and Harry were initially concerned that they wouldn't be able to afford the home, noting that—at the time—they were both unemployed.
"We didn’t have jobs, so we were just not going to come and see this house. It wasn’t possible," she said. "It’s like when I was younger and you’re window shopping—it’s like, 'I don’t want to go and look at all the things that I can’t afford—that doesn’t feel good.'"
However, her fascination with the estate won out and they went to view the home in person—with Meghan revealing that they fell in love with it before even setting foot inside.
"One of the first things my husband saw when we walked around the house was those two palm trees," she recalled. "We did everything we could to get this house."
