Kenosha, WI Homeowners Can Expect a Cool and Dry Fall, Says The Old Farmer’s Almanac

by The Realtor.com Team

Autumn 2025 is shaping up to be a crisp, cool one for Kenosha, WI.

The Old Farmer’s Almanac predicts that much of the Upper Midwest will trend cooler and drier than normal this fall.

While other regions brace for lingering summer-like heat, Wisconsin residents will enjoy a season that feels like a traditional Midwestern autumn—as well as an influx of new, interested homebuyers in one of the top ranked ZIP codes in the country.

A classic midwest fall

Wisconsin is forecast to be cool and dry throughout the fall. In the Upper Midwest region, September temperatures are expected to average 57°F, about 2° below normal, with 3.5 inches of rain—slightly above average. October will cool even further, averaging 45°F with just 1.5 inches of rain.

That means Kenosha residents should expect scattered showers, crisp mornings, and even the possibility of some early-season snowflakes in northern parts of the region. With below-normal rainfall overall, however, the area should also see stretches of sunny days that showcase Wisconsin’s famous fall colors.

Kenosha’s market Is heating up

While the weather outlook points to a cooling trend, the housing market in Kenosha is warming. The city’s 53142 ZIP code secured the No. 23 spot on the Realtor.com®  2025 Hottest ZIP Codes list.

Homes here are drawing 2.9× more views per listing compared to the U.S. average and selling in just 29 days—more than a month faster than typical listings nationwide. The median listing price in Kenosha is $321,000, placing it well below the national norm of $441,000 from this past June.

Nearby, Racine (ZIP 53402) also made the top 50 list at No. 30, with a slightly higher median listing price of $329,000 and homes selling in about the same time frame. The fact that two southeastern Wisconsin markets cracked the rankings highlights the region’s affordability and appeal for buyers priced out of larger metros like Chicago and Milwaukee.

Realtor.com Chief Economist Danielle Hale put the trend in perspective: “Shoppers are increasingly seeking out ZIPs with better value just outside of expensive urban cores." Kenosha fits that description perfectly, offering suburban convenience, lakefront access, and commuting options at a price point that still stands out.

September to-do list for homeowners

With cooler, drier conditions expected, September is an important month for Kenosha homeowners to prepare their properties before the winter chill arrives.

Ryan Williams, general manager of 128 Plumbing, Heating, Cooling & Electric, advises: “Before the grass is covered with snow, or it’s too cold to venture outside, check walkways for cracks and loose paver material”. Fixing them now prevents tripping hazards once snow and ice set in.

Chris Granger, of Sears Home Services, points to siding upkeep: “September is a great time to use a pressure washer to clean it up—and inspect for more serious problems before winter comes”.

Other key September tasks include:

  • Sealing drafty windows to reduce heating bills.
  • Sweeping chimneys before lighting fireplaces.
  • Changing HVAC filters to ensure efficient heating as temperatures drop.

These maintenance steps will help Kenosha households make the most of the crisp, colorful season ahead while staying prepared for the Midwest’s harsher winter to follow. See the Realtor.com September home maintenance checklist for more.
