Inside Kimberly Guilfoyle’s Glamorous New Life in Greece—as Local Politicians Reveal What They Really Think About Her Role

by Kelsi Karruli

Donald Trump Jr.'s former fiancee, Kimberly Guilfoyle, has shared some fascinating insights into her life as the U.S. ambassador to Greece, months after she relocated to Athens to take up the prestigious position.

Guilfoyle, 56, who was appointed to the role by her former future father in law, President Donald Trump, just a few days after it was revealed she had split from his son, touched down in Athens at the start of November, having spent some time in Washington, DC, getting to grips with her new position.

Her job kicked off in earnest on Nov. 4, when she appeared at the official Ceremony of the Presentation of Credentials at the Presidential Palace in Athens, where she met with Greek President Konstantinos Tasoulas.

Now, in a wide-ranging interview with the New York Times, Guifoyle revealed the truth about what her job entails, laying bare a heady mix of late-night socializing, elegant soirees—and gritty political maneuvers that have proven to be somewhat divisive with her Greek counterparts.

Detailing one of the more glamorous events in her life of late, Guilfoyle revealed that she had recently made an appearance at a local nightclub for the 1:30 a.m. performance of pop singer Konstantinos Argiros, whom she counts as a close friend.

“Oh, I wasn’t late, it was like before 3,” she told the outlet about what time she got back to her Athens mansion.

She stood by her decision to stay out late at a nightclub with friends, despite her prestigious position, noting that her doing so displayed her "loyal" character—while also insisting that her continued presence at such prominent events helps to bolster America's profile in Greece.

“If it brings enthusiasm and interest in America and the economy and commerce and trade and our bilateral relationship, I’m all for that," she said.

“It’s important to show up for your friends, for the people that are there for you. I think anyone that you talk to is going to tell you that I’m an incredibly loyal person. I have tremendous stamina.

“That’s one of the things the president loves about me, that I’m loyal, I’m smart, that I’m effective. And I’ll do whatever it takes to get the job done."

Greece’s energy minister, Stavros Papastavrou, echoed those sentiments, noting that the 56-year-old has been a "driving force" in getting deals across the finish line, adding that she always means business.

“Usually, you meet someone and you introduce yourself, you say a few nice words. ... Ms. Guilfoyle is not about nice talk. She’s about doing things," Papastavrou said. She often rings him at midnight, "when we need to finish something.

"She’s someone who doesn’t have office hours,” he added.

Her efforts have certainly impressed many, including Greece’s health minister and a vice president of the governing conservative party, Adonis Georgiadis, who worked alongside Guilfoyle to bring U.S. tech to the country's health care systems.

“Everybody wants to meet her. When she came here, all my friends called me to ask me how she was in real life. I mean, even people who have never called me for anything," he noted.

Georgiadis was also one of the few who publicly spoke out in support of Guilfoyle when she was first named as U.S. ambassador.

“When she was first named, the people were, ‘What’s that?’ If she delivers, who cares if she has a see-through dress?” he said.

However, not everyone has had the same reaction to Guilfoyle's prominent arrival in the country, with George Katrougalos, the Greek foreign minister under the former government, noting that her blunt approach to politics might create a misconception of her status—and that of the U.S. in Greece.

She gives, he said, “the impression that the United States is co-governing the country.”

Another skeptic is Constantinos Filis, a prominent commenter on U.S.-Greek relations and the director of the Institute of Global Affairs at the American College of Greece.

“Gossip shows talk about her every day, about her outfits, about her stylist, about her appearances," he said.

“In terms of public relations, she has done an excellent job, but the submissiveness makes us look like a Third World country."

Should Guilfoyle spend an entire term as ambassador to Greece, it's likely that she will serve for around three years, up until the end of President Trump's current term.

During that time, she will reside in the official ambassadorial residence in Athens, a property that is more commonly known as Jefferson House.

The property is designed to serve both as a private dwelling and as an event space, where Guilfoyle will be able to host official functions. It includes several formal reception rooms, dining areas, and meeting spaces, all of which have been designed to blend Greek and American traditions.

It is currently unclear what Guilfoyle and her former fiance, Trump Jr., plan to do with their Jupiter, FL, mansion in the wake of their split. However, property records indicate that the dwelling is still registered under both of their names.

The home boasts six bedrooms and 5.5 bathrooms. It sits on a plum 1.18-acre waterfront lot.

According to the original listing, the home underwent a "massive update" before it was purchased by the couple, who both took on very active roles in the president's reelection campaign.

Located in the upscale neighborhood of Admirals Cove, the home is near a golf course and a marina.
