Iconic Casa Encantada Returns to the Market in L.A. Yet Again for $190 Million—After Undergoing Huge $25 Million Price Bump

by Kellie Speed

An extraordinary megamansion in Los Angeles has come back on the market for the eighth time in six years with an equally extraordinary $35 million increase from its previous listing price.

Known as Casa Encantada, the staggering estate first appeared on the market in October 2019 with an asking price of $225 million, only for the listing to disappear just three months later.

Since then, it has bounced on and off the market, each time with a new listing price—most recently on Oct. 10, when it was listed for $190 million, a sum that has seen the dwelling shoot to the top of the week's most expensive homes list, a title it has now claimed five times.

Its reappearance comes just seven months after the seven-bedroom, 20-bathroom home was listed for the comparatively cheap price of $175 million in March. That ask was lowered to $165 million in August.

Perched on an 8.4-acre promontory overlooking the golf course of the Bel-Air Country Club, the sprawling property is said to be owned by Karen Winnick, widow of billionaire financier Gary Winnick, who died in 2023.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the seven-bedroom estate set two records as the most expensive private home ever sold in the country. The Winnicks purchased it in 2000 for $94 million from Dole Food billionaire David Murdock, who bought it from Conrad Hilton, founder of the Hilton Hotels chain.

Built in 1938, the modernized mansion boasts period molding, a grand staircase, and a walnut-paneled library. Other lavish highlights include dual living salons, a billiard room, conservatory, media room, home theater, wine cellar, and staff quarters. The primary suite comes with two sitting rooms and dual bathrooms.

Other jaw-dropping estates to make this week's most expensive list include a brand-new Studio City, CA, mansion located on the lot where the former home of late “Jeopardy!” host Alex Trebek once sat; a neo-Federal mansion in Manhattan that recently underwent a gut renovation; and a 2,151-acre farm in New York being offered publicly for the first time.
