English Country Manor Next Door to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Montecito Mansion Makes Regal Return to Market for $35 Million

by Larissa Runkle

Anglophile home hunters may want to turn their gaze to Montecito, CA, where an English country manor has reappeared on the market— next door to the Mediterranean-style mansion that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have called home for the last five years.

Located on the leafy street of Garden Lane, the extraordinary property sits at the heart of Montecito's coveted Riven Rock neighborhood, just a stone's throw from the Sussexes' $14.65 million property.

While this home might not boast the same illustrious connection to the British royal family, its newly reduced asking price of $34.9 million is more than double the price that Meghan and Harry paid for their abode.

Having first been listed for sale in February of this year for the elevated asking price of $36.5 million, the manor struggled to find a buyer—and it was removed from the market in August, before making a regal return with a discounted ask just a few days later.

Still, its new asking price still places the property among the five most expensive homes currently on the market in the celebrity-loved Santa Barbara County enclave, which also counts Jennifer Aniston, Oprah Winfrey, and Katy Perry among its residents.

The expansive estate is a testament to the kind of refined grandeur that Montecito is famous for, offering more than 11,000 square feet of living space across more than 5 acres of rolling hills and thoughtfully designed gardens.

Framed by the Santa Ynez Mountains mountains, which can be seen looming over the stately home, the manor also offers ocean views from its plum parcel.

From the moment you approach the dual-gated, cobblestone motor court, you begin to understand that this is no ordinary home, but rather a deeply curated environment, where every stone and space has been crafted to leave a lasting impression.

Built in 1999 and more recently restored and expanded by Van Acker Construction, the residence includes seven bedroom suites, 12 full bathrooms, and a powder room.

Yet, despite its vast dimensions, the design feels surprisingly intimate. Elegantly understated finishes define each space, from hardwood and limestone floors to intricate tile work and fireplaces tucked into unexpected corners.

The heart of the home features not one, but multiple kitchens. A secondary culinary arts kitchen rivals those of fine restaurants, equipped with high-end appliances such as a professional range and multiple ovens.

An adjoining service wing provides guest accommodations, staff quarters, and even a two-bay chauffeur’s garage with offices above that are ideal for security or staff.

Luxury amenities are also layered into the property, even when not immediately apparent: A subterranean eight-car auto gallery allows for showcasing and protecting prized collections, while above ground a large pool and cabana are framed by mature citrus trees.

Farther afield, garden pathways are characterized by creeks and bridges, furthering the impression of being on the grounds of a historic English manor.

The primary suite, with a soaking tub, crystal chandeliers, and a 1,220-square-foot walk-in closet, offers every bit of comfort and luxury you’d expect for the owners of such an estate.

Other amenities, like radiant-floor, zoned heating, central air, and media and playrooms can be found throughout the property.

A myriad of quiet spaces including libraries, lounging porches, and covered patios beckon back to a golden era of slow living, all while still being just a few minute’s drive from downtown Santa Barbara.

The home's struggle to sell defies an otherwise-booming Montecito market—which has only been made more alluring to buyers as a result of Harry and Meghan's decision to live there, while also using it as the location for many of their projects, including the mother of two's series "With Love, Meghan."

While she opted out of using her own property as a filming location, instead selecting a nearby $9.5 million dwelling that was rented out as a film set for the series, the show was described as having a "positive effect" on the Montecito area by local real estate agent Dina Landi.

Indeed, between May 2019, before the Duke and Duchess of Sussex settled into their palatial nine-bedroom, 16-bathroom home to raise their two children, and May 2025, median prices in Montecito surged a staggering 75%, from $4.9 million to $8.6 million, according to Realtor.com® data.

Landi noted, however, that Montecito has plenty more to offer than its A-list allure, explaining that the unbeatable quality of life in the area is what draws people to it most. The community has seen a huge influx of wealthy buyers—from other parts of California, as well as Miami, New York City, and Dallas—all of whom were seeking out a more relaxed quality of life, she said.
