Billionaire Jeff Bezos Is ‘Quietly Shopping’ $500 Million ‘Floating Palace’ Superyacht Because It’s ‘Too Huge’

Amazon tycoon Jeff Bezos is said to be "quietly shopping" his one-of-a-kind $500 million superyacht, Koru, with reports suggesting that the billionaire now believes the "floating palace" is "too huge" to manage.

The extraordinary vessel, which measures a whopping 417 feet, was built by Dutch manufacturer Oceanco and hit the seas for the first time in February 2023, months before Bezos, 62, and his now-wife, Lauren Sanchez Bezos, were pictured enjoying their first vacation on Koru.

Though not the largest yacht in the world, Koru is among the most sizable private ships to have ever been built. It features a myriad of upscale—and unique—features, the most noticeable of which is a large wooden mermaid statue on its prow, which many believe was meant to resemble Sanchez.

The 56-year-old has vehemently denied that the statue is an homage to her, however, insisting in a 2023 interview with Vogue that it is actually a depiction of Freyja, the Norse goddess of love, fertility, war, and gold.

However, the most distinguishing feature of the boat is undoubtedly its size, which makes it one of the most luxurious vessels currently on the high seas—but, according to Page Six, it has also made it next to impossible for Bezos to enjoy as much as he'd like.

The outlet reports that the Amazon founder has run into several issues over the yacht's enormous size. Koru was denied mooring access at Formula 1 Grand Prix in Monaco in 2025 and was unable to get anywhere near the couple's wedding venue in Venice that same year.

Sources also told the publication that Bezos is worried the yacht has become "too recognizable," after being photographed dozens of times during his trips with Sanchez and their celebrity friends.

The yacht was the venue for the couple's first engagement party in summer 2023—and it has played host to the likes of Kris Jenner, Katy Perry, Orlando Bloom, and Leonardo DiCaprio in the three years since Bezos purchased it.

The yacht is one of the world's largest, and it comes complete with a royal blue hull and a $75 million support ship, named Abeona. It is unclear if Bezos is looking to sell that vessel as well.

According to Robb Report, it costs Bezos $30 million per year to operate both ships.

Koru was designed by Dykstra Naval Architecture and it is said to have been inspired by billionaire Barry Diller’s yacht Eos—despite being built on a much larger scale.

Bezos' superyacht has enough room for 18 guests in nine cabins and accommodations of 36 crew members.

It also boasts three masts, multiple decks, and a pool.

When it came to naming his vessel, Bezos previously revealed that he opted for Koru because it references a new phase of life, or changes, a meaning that was particularly prevalent in his life when he bought it, weeks before proposing to Sanchez.

According to Page Six, Bezos has gone to great lengths to ensure his and Sanchez's safety while onboard, with the outlet noting that the boat is equipped with water canons designed to ward off any pirates.

In 2022, one year before Bezos set sail, the yacht caused an uproar when it forced a bridge in the Netherlands to be temporarily altered to accommodate its towering height.

At the time, the city of Rotterdam dismantled part of the Koningshaven Bridge, which is a national monument.

A spokesperson for the city told the Washington Post at the time that the middle part of the bridge had to be dismantled so that the yacht could safely pass through.

"From an economic perspective, we attach great importance to preserving employment," Frances van Heijst told the outlet at the time.

It's unclear whether Bezos is planning to replace Koru with another, smaller yacht. However, if he does, he will have the perfect place to dock the vessel at his new custom-built waterfront mansion, which he and Sanchez are in the process of finalizing.

Bezos has been hard at work on building his perfect marital abode on Miami's Indian Creek Island since 2023, when he and his wife announced they were relocating their primary residence from Washington to Florida.

Since then, the Amazon mogul has purchased three extraordinary properties inside the exclusive enclave, which is widely known as Billionaire Bunker, thanks to the sky-high net worths of its residents, which include the likes of Tom Brady, Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner, and Mark Zuckerberg.

First, he snapped up two adjacent mansions in 2023 for $68 million and $79 million, respectively.

It was then reported that the Amazon founder was planning to raze both properties to build an enormous custom compound.

But until that work is completed, he has made sure that their temporary accommodations are up to snuff as far as luxury is concerned, going above and beyond to transform his third Billionaire Bunker abode, a Mediterranean-style mansion he bought for $87 million in 2024.

All three properties sit on the waterfront and feature their own private docks. However, it's likely that Koru would be far too large to anchor outside of Bezos' homes, which likely have a maximum yacht capacity of 200 feet.

Bezos has even run into trouble while trying to dock Koru at a much larger marina near his Florida homes, with The Independent reporting in December 2023 that the billionaire had been forced to moor his boat alongside "oil tankers, container ships, and a cruise ship" because it was too big to be parked alongside the other private yachts at the Port Everglades marina.

While the marina is known for being home to some of the world's most impressive private boats, it has a maximum capacity of 400 feet.
